I am studying bioengineering with a dual minor in bioinformatics and legal studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. My interest in global health was piqued by an engineering project I completed with a team of undergraduates that sought to address the lack of access to contraceptives globally. By understanding not only the engineering work that was needed but also the very important social and economic hindrances that populations face in accessing many essential medicines, I have been able to understand ICEC’s mission and relate my experiences to theirs in combating these types of global issues. I hope to use my experience to contribute to furthering the work of ICEC. I am excited to be working with such a knowledgeable and accomplished staff and to learn more about cancer treatment and general global health security. In my time with ICEC I hope to understand more about the implementation of global health care infrastructure and the interface between non-governmental organizations, like ICEC, and various official and governmental bodies to solve problems and improve the lives of individuals and communities worldwide.
