Charles Vermeere-Merlen
Graduating from Sciences Po Paris and the University of California, Berkeley in the Spring of 2025 with a Dual Degree in Political Science and Economics, Charles Vermeere-Merlen served as ICEC’s Fall 2024 intern. Charles’ interest in global health and policy was shaped by his academic journey and personal background, growing up in a family of doctors and gaining insights into health challenges like cancer. His studies at Sciences Po equipped him with a deep understanding of international relations, global security, and development issues, while his time at UC Berkeley provided a practical approach to global economic challenges, especially those affecting developing countries. Charles’ interest in global health and development issues aligns closely with ICEC’s mission, aspiring to contribute positively to global society for the better, and working on health issues to reach that goal.
During his internship, Charles contributed to research, policy analysis, and strategic planning. His work explored the implementation of global health policies and the collaboration between NGOs such as ICEC and governmental institutions to address pressing health issues worldwide, especially within global cancer care.
Following his term interning, ICEC recruited Charles to support the organization’s special projects. In his current role, Charles is collaborating with partners like CERN to analyze the global cancer care need and publish research to drive innovative solutions such as linear accelerator development.
