As part of ICEC’s collaboration with Chartrounds, the site’s existing categories are expanding to include medical physics and radiobiology. Radiobiology, a subsection of the biology field, focuses on ionizing radiation among organisms and the effect of radiation and radiological techniques. The radiobiology webinars will primarily be moderated by Dr. Elaine Zeman, PhD.
Dr. Elaine M. Zeman was an active researcher in the field of radiation biology from 1978 through 1994, with particular interests in the biological basis of time, dose and fractionation effects in radiotherapy and the detection and therapy of hypoxic cells in tumors. Since 1995, Dr. Zeman has devoted her energies to radiation and cancer biology education, and is well known as a dynamic and entertaining public speaker and an excellent teacher, who emphasizes equally the historical, conceptual, technical and clinical aspects of the field. She is a past recipient of the American Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Resident Teacher of the Year award. Dr. Zeman has also authored or co-authored nine publications on the topics of radiation biology education and the radiation biology educator workforce.
